This word is SO scary for some people. They consider people that enjoy mediation to be "weird" or a "hippie". The real truth about meditation is that the world needs more people experiencing it.
I have found that there are two VERY different reactions to this funny little word MEDITATION. The first is the people that "get it". The ones that practice it on a daily. They want to know what I experience, do I do it daily, bla, bla, bla.
The second group has no interest what-so-ever. No! NO WAY! HELL NO!! "I can't", "It's too hard". "I tried it for a week and nothing happened." bla, bla, bla.
For my meditation lovers..... Continue to reap the benefits.
For my Nay sayers..... Try consider giving it another chance. Use these tips to help you ease into it. It is suppose to keep you calm not stress you out. These tips will help.
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FOR HOURS
You won't have to sit on a pillow or mat and TRY to meditate for 4 hours to get the benefits (but, that may get you some SERIOUS results).
Consider taking 5 minutes out of your morning. Sit on the floor, sofa, whatever is comfortable. You will want a space peaceful and quiet.
Sit and breathe. Yep, long breathe in (through your nose), hold for 2 sec, long a steady breathe out your mouth. Do this 3 times. After that return to normal breathing and just listen to your breathe. Don't control it just let it be and breathe. Here is where you DON'T want to over think it. Just "Be".
MEDITATION IS NOT ABOUT "NOT" THINKING
Meditation is not NOT thinking it's thinking and then letting it go. Imagine your thoughts inside a bubble. The goal is to let them drift away on the breeze. Notice them but, don't let your mind run with that thought. Tell yourself yep, I see I am thinking about rainbow unicorns but, I am not going to go any farther with it.
If you do start getting sucked into the thought. Stop. Acknowledge it. Let it go. Come back to your breathe. Do not get discouraged. Keep doing it. Just let it be. Have a thought and watch it drift away on the breeze.
START WITH A GUIDED MEDITATION
Guided meditations give you direction and something to keep you going. Most are for 10 to 15 minutes but, just having a voice to guide you through helps keep you on course. I use guided ones myself. It is a great way to get started. Listen to the voice. If you don't like it, pick another one. Make sure the voice is calming and soothing to you. This will help you relax. That is the key to relax. Check out Youtube and type in "guided meditation". The more specific the better. There are meditations on everything from confidence to anxiety.
Do not over think this. If you start to feel stressed about if you are doing it right or thoughts are overwhelming... then stop! Try again tomorrow. No big deal. I promise you can't do it wrong. You can take a break and meditate any time. You can be in the bathroom stale at work and just sit quietly and close your eyes and breathe. It helps if life is getting overwhelming. Do it as often as you like. Take 10 minutes on your lunch hour put, headphones in and sit at your desk or find a quiet place.
Go into this thinking it will relax me. This will help my stress. Have a positive approach to it and you will get positive results. Dreading it will only make you dread it more. What you put out you will get back.
Do this for a month. A solid 30 days. Commit to it. Take note of the results.
Listen, my husband is a Marine. Old school Marine. He is tough and doesn't believe in the practice. After years of him watch me and see how it has eased my stress. He has started to practice it his self. He listens to it on the way to work. After a few days he says he can feel a difference. Any one that knows my husband KNOWS this is a big deal.
Just try it for 30 days. If it becomes a habit by then, keep doing it. Let it be a big part of your life. Also, be grateful a long with it. Being grateful puts your mind at peace too. If you are thinking about someone you love how do you have time to worry? Right?
Even getting a friend to do this with you could help keep you on track. The support is always helpful. Curious of your reaction. Comment below or Contact me to chat about it.
Have a great day Peeps!!
