When you sit down to eat do you find that you gorge yourself to the point of misery? Why do we do this and how can we stop? There are lots of reasons why we do this but, one is usually we are just plain starving!!! We get so busy during the day we forget to eat or eat crap and when dinner time gets here we are so very hungry we eat very quickly.
Have you ever done that?
Today I will give you a few tips and tricks to help you over come the misery. Let's all take a deep breathe and relax.
If you eat slower, it will help you eat less. Eating slower will help your stomach signal your brain that you have had enough. When you gobble up your food your stomach doesn’t have time to alert your brain when you are full, so you keep eating until it’s too late. You are miserable. So, pace yourself and chew each bite 20 times before you swallow. Enjoy the food savor each bite.
Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated will help you feel fuller. Sometimes when we THINK we feel a hunger pain it really isn’t. We are really dehydrated and that is our body telling us we need more water. Drinking a glass of water before a meal will help you eat less because your stomach will be fuller.
Eating often will help keep your sugar levels stable. Your body needs a constant flow of fuel. We get that fuel from our food. If you are running your tank empty then you will feel weak, sick or even tired. Diabetics need the constant flow of fuel. If not, they start to have all kinds of trouble. The body needs a steady source of fuel, so fuel not just feed your body every few hours.
Eating when you are emotional could be part of why you overeat. Most of us overeat because of this fact and we don’t even realize we do it. Think back when you were a kid how did you deal with hard feelings? Did your mom give you a treat to make you feel better? This could be a turning point when you figure it out. Think about what you do when you are sad, or angry, or feeling alone. Being aware of the behavior is the first step into changing it.
Not eating enough protein and fiber will leave you hungry more often. It takes the body longer to process protein and fiber meaning you will stay full longer. They are lasting energy that is easy to incorporate into your diet. Add chicken or seafood to your lunch salad. Have raw veggies and hummus for a snack.
I hope this sheds some light on why you overeat. Be aware when and what you eat. It could change the whole weight loss game for sure.
