We all make excuses for just about everything we don’t want to do. Am I right?
We all have excuses for not doing hard things. We avoid them. WHY? Because they are hard to deal with! DDDUUHH!! Who’s got time for that?
It is so easy to just ignore the problem, like facing the fact you need to lose weight. Your doctor has informed you if things don’t change you are looking at having heart surgery, or a life time of serious illnesses that will eventually kill you. Or maybe it is something as simple as hiding behind your kids in pictures of the family vacation. Maybe you aren’t in them at all because you are ashamed of the way you look. Missing out on family pictures should not be an excuse.
The problem isn’t going away. It will only progress into an uncontrollable monster that you wish you would of took care of years ago. Stop wishing your problem away and start taking
action on getting healthy for yourself and for your family. They need you and you want to be happy in your own skin right?
Stop using everything and everyone else for excuses. Take responsibility for your actions and make the changes that need to be made. Is this hard to do? HELL YEA!!! But, once you start it…. You will always go forward and won’t be in the same predicament that you are in right now. Yes, you may fall off the wagon a time or two but, you will always come back to your new healthy life style.
Excuse #1 “I don’t have time”
Of course, you don’t have time. It’s not important to you right now. You have the time. You just should decide if you want to work out or scroll through Facebook and look at everyone’s so called fabulous life. You do realize they only put the fun stuff on, there right?
So, put down the phone and turn off the TV for 30 mins. You could also, work out during the commercials. Do sit ups, pushups, run up and down the steps or walk in place. See, you have time it’s just a matter of you MAKING it a priority. That is what you must do. Make it happen.
Excuse #2 “I can’t go to the gym because of the kids”
Really?? Do this FOR the kids. Show them it is an important part of everyday life. Let them know that you honor yourself and them by taking the time to work out. You can’t get to the gym on Monday. That’s cool, go for a walk or a run WITH the kids. Watch their little faces light up when you say YOU are going outside with them. These walks are more than getting your steps in. It is about spending QUALITY time with your family. The WHOLE family (if possible). When the kids are put in a relaxed atmosphere and are happy they are willing to talk. Try it. You ask the questions that are NOT yes or no and see what comes up for you and them. Talk to them enjoy the fresh air and conversation. SHOW your kids the importance of a healthy life style not just tell them. Make them the reason not the excuse.
Excuse #3 “I have tried but, failed before”
Let me ask you a very important question and be totally honest with yourself. Did you set a goal and take action each day to get to that end goal?
I didn’t think so. This shit is hard to do but, when you don’t have a prize or result at the end of it, you are working for nothing. Treading water is all that is happening. So, in order for you to start SEEING results (cause that is what matters right now right?) you must break it down and take action on it daily. Even if it is a little step like, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The small things we do daily will get us to the big goal. The big goal of feeling healthy and BEING healthy. Get a goal. Here is an example of goal setting.
For example: You want to lose 30 pounds in 6 months for your 25th class reunion. Break it down, decide how many months you have till the reunion and then how many pounds you must lose each week to get you there. Most of the time when you break it down it is only like 2 or 3 pounds a week which is about average healthy weight to lose.
Another way to get on track and stay on track. Get an accountability partner. Someone that will exercise with you, hold your hand when you really, really, really don’t want to do it that day. Some one that will have your back and talk you off the ledge when you are ready to eat everything in the bakery next to your work because it smells so gooooodddd! Find a whole group of Ladies that will support you and encourage you.
You are not the same person you were. You are different and are willing to do what is necessary to make your dreams come true. Don’t forget that.
One more answer to your excuse. Spend the money you need to spend to get yourself healthy. I understand spending money on yourself is hard. Women are the worst about it. I have been there myself. What I have learned is that you work harder if money is on the line. If you are paying money (and not $10 for a gym membership. Even though that is a good start) you are more likely to “put the work in” because you don’t want to waste the money. Consider it investing in YOURSELF. Think of it as an investment that you will get a return on your whole life! That is hella return don’t you think? So, spend the money and know that you are worth it. Put forth the effort and see how your whole life and relationships will change.
